The principles of the Fraternal Order Knights of Pythias – Friendship, Charity and Benevolence – are equally as important in today’s world, as they were over 140 years ago when the Order was founded. During its existence, in the past, present and into the future – our members consist of like-minded men from all walks of life – striving for the betterment of mankind. We feel there are many reasons to become a member of the Order – whether it be in making new friends, taking part in charitable work, assisting those in need, working with youth activities, being alongside a friend or relative that is already a member, having new business contacts or sharing in different types of activities – there are more reasons or you may have one of your own. There is real value in becoming a member, whether it is in the satisfaction of serving, or taking part in the various events and activities of a local Lodge, that a member can be a part of. With the fact that family and home comes first, there are activities that do include all members of the family – and there are other ‘branches’ of the Pythian family as well – the Pythian Sisters, the Junior Order, the Sunshine Girls, the Dramatic Order Knights of Khorassan and the Nomads of Avrudaka. Since the number required to form a Knights of Pythias Lodge is only 9, this can easily be a way to start up a lodge with others in your area, if none are near you currently. Individual Knights, Subordinate Lodges, and Grand Lodges have all been asked to re-establish their commitment to increasing membership. A Knight should be proud to ASK a prospective member to become a Pythian. A variety of materials that may assist you in your recruitment efforts are also available from the Supreme Secretary. Please write or E-mail Supreme Secretary Steve Glise, 1516-1/2 SW Western Avenue, Topeka, KS 66604 . He will send them directly to you. The satisfaction of recruiting a new member into our order should be reward enough, but Supreme Chancellor Dan Cowan has provided many new aspects and incentives in his Program to honor and reward those Knights who are doing an outstanding job of membership recruitment. (Please go to the Supreme Chancellor’s Program link, to learn more about these exciting ideas). All Lodges are requested to appoint a Membership Committee which will actively promote the Supreme Chancellor's Membership Program, a proven program from the DSC Manual, or one of their choice.
