Welcome to the Knights of Pythias website. I encourage you to thoroughly explore this site and discover what the Knights of Pythias is all about. If you have any questions that are not answered on the site, submit your question by using the “Ask Us a Question” link, and we will do our best to direct you to someone who may be able to help The Pythian Order was founded by Justus H. Rathbone in Washington, D.C. on February 19, 1864. It is based on the principles of Friendship, Charity and Benevolence. We are very proud to be the first of two fraternal organizations which received their charter from the United States Congress, the second being the Boy Scouts of America. Domains of the Order exist in most states and provinces. Subordinate lodges are located in many cities and towns across the United States and Canada. If you are interested in joining, please use the “Ask About Membership” link and someone will be in contact with you shortly. If there are no lodges in your area, we can provide you with information about how to start a new lodge. Pythian lodges are deeply involved in charity work. The Supreme Chancellor’s charity of choice is the American Cancer Society and the Canadian Cancer Society. A new program being instituted this year emphasizes Community Service and Volunteerism, in which the Supreme Chancellor is challenging the entire membership to donate 2 MILLION HOURS of Benevolent and Charitable service through volunteering their time to their local communities. The Pythian Order will continue with programs in support for our troops by sending cards, letters and care packages to the men and women serving our country. The Pythian Order also sponsors a national poster contest for high school students and distributes patches for Eagle Scouts. Links are provided to help you learn more about these activities. Our organization consists of three distinct levels, the first being the Supreme level which is the International level, Grand which is the State level and Subordinate which is local town or community. We have three recognized auxiliaries: The Pythian Sisters, The Dramatic Order of the Knights of Khorassan (DOKK) and the Junior Order Knights of Pythias. The Knights of Pythias and its auxiliaries make our Order a family attraction. The Pythian Sisters provide an Order for the wives and other female members of your community. The Pythian Sisters have an auxiliary, Pythian Sunshine Girls for young girls. The Junior Order Knights of Pythias gives the young boys age 10 through 17 an order of their own. This Order helps build character and provides leadership and organizational skills. The Dramatic Order of the Knights of Khorassan is the fun order of the Knights. This Order also provides free college loans for its members and their children (available after 2 years tenure as a member). They also have an auxiliary, the Nomads, for the ladies and other loving members. If you believe in a Supreme Being and want to work in harmony with your fellow man, and want to give back to your community, then I urge you to consider joining our organization.
