Return to Monte Bello Meetings

We had 15 people in attendance, including Brother Bucking Beaver. We all agree that Bucky is a good addition to our lodge and we all hope he continues to be part of our lodge, Brother Hermon Graham could not make our meeting due to a commitment with the County 911 Board meeting and Brother Ken Patterson could not make it because of his commitment to the North Alabama State Fair Board (The Fair starts on Tuesday). I encourage all of our members to try and make the meetings when you are in town and do not have other commitments. Realizing we all have lives and many things conflict with our meeting, but when you are in town, are feeling good and have no conflicts, please try to attend. It is because of our membership that we have a great lodge. When you are absent we miss you.

At our meeting, Brother Dan Howard did his presentation which was well received. He discussed his remarkable career within the academic community He talked about growing up in New York and how he loved playing sports as a kid. He said his dad had worked as a Fuller Brush salesman and he told us what an impact his parents had influencing his work ethic and setting him on the right path for life. Through his employment at Indiana University was detached to work with various Military Branches as a contractor. Dan provided us with the following information about his education and professional career during the program:

“Dr. G. Daniel “Dan” Howard holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree from Manhattan College as well as two (2) Masters Degrees “With Honors” and two (2) doctoral degrees from Indiana University; It was his honor and privilege for him to serve during the Vietnam War, in the United States Army, from 1971-1973; He earned five (professional credentials) including the following

Carrol Lion Habitat); He led the successful campaigns for Rogers Hall and Coby Hall -- providing funds for their restoration, and oversighted the restoration of these historic gems; Dan and his lovely wife Anne contributed to UNA “The Laughing Lions” a bronze statue and a 2 meter granite Japanese lantern—all located on the UNA campus; Anne and Dan have continued their individual and combined voluntary efforts and philanthropic contributions for the care and feeding of Leo III and Una two live lion mascots; the construction and maintenance of their habitat; and the conduct of an associated educational effort.”

After Dan completed his program, we went into a short business meeting. During the meeting issues about the Grand Lodge were discussed and tabled until the next meeting so Brother Hermon Graham could participate.

At the time of our meeting, we had no brothers in distress. Brother Ed Yeilding is continuing to improve and attended our session. Brother Ed will be doing our next program on Monday, September 23. He will be discussing his remarkable career in the Air Force and his life in the Shoals area. Unfortunately as many of you already know, Brother Harry Williams' mother, Ms. Helen fell and broke her hip last Thursday evening. She had surgery on Friday and did very well with that. Ms. Helen is very confused and is not always cooperating with the hospital staff or her doctors at North Alabama Regional Hospital. She is in room 4115, and it is not currently known when she will be transferred to a facility for rehab. If you decide to visit please check with Harry before going by the hospital to ensure she has not been transferred. I am sure both Harry and his mom would love to see you.
